Factory farming is the main reason for the adoption of vegetarianism by many for both moral and health reasons. Moral reason against factory farming is the misery inflicted on the animals while in the farms and health reasons include its effect on the environment and public health. This paper, therefore, aims at looking into the justifications for vegetarianism and also serves as a driving force for people to embrace vegetarianism. According to Foer, with the advancements in factory farming over the years, research has proven that it has a devastating effect on the planet. Factory farming refers to the production approach toward farm animals that aims at maximizing production output while minimizing the production costs. During the upbringing process, the values of having compassion and not hurting family, friends, and strangers are often instilled.

Animals are not humans, but they too feel pain. The practices in factory farms often leave the animals in distress. Animals are usually kept in confined places in this type of farming. This causes stress on the animals, and they may consequently show aggression towards each other. Consumption of high levels of cholesterol puts one at risk of developing high blood pressure due to the clogging of blood vessels. In the long run, this leads to increased chances of cardiac arrests, stroke and in some instances hypertension. The number of cardiovascular-associated deaths is higher in non- vegetarians as compared to vegetarians due to their feeding habits (locabbo et al. Foods with high cholesterol levels lead to one developing obesity which is a fat-related health condition. Obesity is a condition caused by the deposition of high amounts of fat beneath one's skin and other parts of the body.

Many Americans eat fats, fast foods, carbonated drinks, processed foods and snacks and thus placing them themselves at risk of health risks due to obesity (Donald, 34). Diets that involve consumption of high levels of sugars and fats have led to an increase in deaths. According to statistics from the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) and the national center for health, more than fifteen percent of the young people out of the sixty percent of the adult population aged between five and twenty years, suffer from weight-related diseases. When trying to address this issue, the society needs to embrace vegetarianism in a bid to avoid health complications due to poor feeding habits (Foer, np). Research has shown that the life expectancy period can be prolonged by over ten years if one adopted vegetarian feeding habits.

Animal products are also high in cholesterol which is a contributing factor to poor cardio health and a leading cause of deaths due to strokes and heart attacks (De Walle et al. The researchers do not mention that the researchers are ad advocating for the vegetarian way of life by advising better ways of animal production. It is a fact that people who consume animal products on a regular basis are at risk of health complications so are vegetarians who entirely rely on selected foods from plants. Failure by vegetarians to consume foods containing proteins will make them experience muscle shrinks, fatigue, and weakness due to inadequate supply of amino acids that provide the body with vitamin B12. Vegetarians boast far more health reward as compared to those who depend completely on meat and animal products.
