Social Problem in Workplaces
A social work student such as those whose future career is in community development is more likely to encounter a lot of social problems while serving to his or her future career considering that the student is most likely to work outside his or her locality in his or her future career. Some of the major social problems which the student might encounter are race issues, gender inequality, and religion-based discrimination (Williams, 2015). This paper will focus on explaining the breadth of the social problems, how the social problems are being addressed as well as giving a thoughtful discussion of how the student will deal with the problem as a professional. The contemporary society is faced with racial issues which have a huge impact on students in the event of serving to their future careers.
Races issues are diverse as they range from racial discrimination to held stereotypes as well as prejudice which severely influence someone in serving to his or her future career. The major ways in which the racial issues are addressed include use of federal laws and policies as well as those formulated within the workplace (Williams, 2015). Education also forms the major ways which are used in the contemporary society to counter racial issues at workplace. This is because lack of enlightenment leads to stereotypes and prejudice which are ingredients of racial discrimination. In the contemporary society, employers are educating their employees to ensure counter the stereotypes perceived by the employees concerning certain races (Williams, 2015). The employers also educate their employees on human rights hence ensuring they comply with provisions of human rights which discourage not only racial discrimination but also all forms of discrimination.
As a professional, the student imagines he or she will deal with the anticipated social problem of racial discrimination while serving to his or her career by reporting any case of racially based discrimination he or she encounters to the authority for the relevant to the management. Additionally, the student believes he or she can as well report cases to the relevant bodies such as equal employment opportunity commission by providing substantial evidence such as a video clip showing how the discrimination took place for legal actions to be taken hence ensuring racial issues at work places are abolished (Triana et al, 2015). The student also considers boycotting the activities of the firm where he or she was discriminated will attract the attention of the management to look into the matter hence resolving the issues.
The students also foresee encountering with gender inequality issues while serving to their future careers. Gender inequality occurs where individuals are unequally treated on basis of their gender (Waber, 2014). Additionally, the campaign also pushes for wages to be determined by the competency of an employee instead of considering his or her gender (Waber, 2014). Through the campaign, the held stereotype that men are more valuable than women is also abolished. Gender policies formulated by companies as well as the federal government are also some of the major ways currently used to address gender inequality. The policies attract severe repercussion to those individuals violating the formulated their provisions. The society is also including gender equality as part of education as well as training where students are encouraged to choose their future careers in their field of interest irrespective of their gender.
The United States Department of justice has as well been involved in combating the menace of religion-based discrimination by ensuring it punishes those discriminating people on the basis of their religion (Vickers, 2016). The student anticipating to encounter the issue of religion-based discrimination while serving to their future careers plans to deals with the same by reporting the cases of discrimination to the employers as well as to other relevant authorities such as equal employment opportunity commission (Vickers, 2016). The students also imagine that they can combat the same by moving to the department of justice to ensure those who discriminate him or she is prosecuted in a court of law. In conclusion, these social problems should be combated to ensure that the students are not inconvenienced while serving to their future career.
Additionally, they should be addressed to ensure that students can seek their future careers in different places irrespective of their races, gender as well as religious belief.
