During the early stone age period, humans made weapons and tools for hunting and farming. As years progressed, new and advanced tools were developed. The world has witnessed greatest artists over the years, some whom their works are still preserved in National museums while others are used as references by modern artists. Great artists used to express complex ideas or information through paintings. Some information would be difficult to express verbally and therefore artists used their skills in painting to pass this kind of information. Historians argue that the industrial revolution in Europe marked the birth of modern art. This was as a result of advancements in technology. New machines were introduced and a majority of the people migrated into the urban centers.

During this period, there was a rapid change infrastructure, transportation, economic and cultural lifestyle of the people. This rapid transformation compelled artists to come up with new artistic styles that would match the transformation era. It is undeniably true that the 20th century marked a significant change in art all over the world. The changes in art were reflected by the avant-garde artists. The avant-garde was a military term used by Baudelaire to describe the artists who were on the forefront. In the military, the avant-garde was used to describe those soldiers who led the others in missions. Modern Art Movements Fauvism Fauvism can be defined as the pieces of artwork that were symbolized by strong colors. This type of art movement was pioneered by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque in 1907 in the France capital Paris.

This art revolutionary movement used different views of the subject. This was definitely one of the most influential styles of art in the 20th century. During this time of art revolution, Louis Vauxcelles was a great critic of artworks. Cubism was a name coined from the comments he made after viewing George Braque’s exhibitions in Paris, 1908. This is a movement that was formed in reaction to the world war I. This avant-garde movement blamed the cultural values for the catastrophic impacts of world war I. It was regarded as an anti-art movement because it was revolting the current art and replacing it with a new one. The name of the movement was created by Richard Huelsenbeck and Hugo Ball in 1916.

The movement made multiple publications through magazines that helped in spreading the anti-art messages. Goya remains to be one of the greatest painters of the 19th century and some of his paintings are still preserved in the Prado art museum in Madrid. Edouard Manet Born in in Paris 1832, Edouard Manet is one of the most influential artists of the modern art. As one of the pioneers of modern art, he expressed his art skills through wonderful paintings. He had a great influence on painters of his time who admired and emulated his works. In the beginning, his innovation works were not appreciated by the society but he did not give up. However, the major difference between the two is the fact that traditional art commonly uses symbolic images of people whereas modern art uses symbolic shapes and relationships.
