To what extent can the level of school enrollment influence the economic growth of ECOWAS member countries? 3.
To what extent has government expenditure on health influenced economic growth in ECOWAS member countries? 1. State of Knowledge Human capital can be defined as a knowledge-based economic approach, which can be determined by focusing on education and health. According to Manuelli & Seshadri (2014), human capital is viewed as the ways of generating wealth embodied by labour, skill, and knowledge. It is also represented by the accumulation of investment in activities, such as education, health, training and migration that will increase a person opportunities in the labour market (Lutz & Samir, 2011). This is far from the benchmark set by United Nation Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on education for developing countries. The budgetary allocation on health has not been more than 4% as against the 2001 AU countries’ pledge of a target of at least 15% of the annual budget on qualitative health care.
It is, however, important to note that only a healthy and educated population can be highly productive, as education and health are capable of driving productivity of a Nation. A population that is well educated is capable of coming up with research that can help to improve the quality of living for a certain group of people. In the same note, when a population is well educated, less time is spent seeking medication. It has also been a major concern of every economy in the world, including the underdeveloped, developing or developed. It is therefore against this that the study intends to empirically analyze the exact impact of human capital development on the economy growth of the ECOWAS member countries. I will spend most of these times in doing research on my topic. In addition, this time will be spent doing interviews and questionnaires that relate to my topic of research. I have had to sacrfice a lot in order to make this dream a reality. Neverthless, even though I am proud of what I have been able to do through sheer hardwork and sacrifice, I really feel drained finacially.
