In the essay, Diaz uses literature styles, which helped him to narrate his story to his audience. He creates the picture of his life through the trauma he underwent. The childhood trauma caused him to experience -never-ending intrusions throughout his life. This essay presents a rhetorical analysis of the essay by explaining how Diaz uses rhetorical appeals to tell his story. The audience addressed in the piece is the public since through the story it is realized that anyone can be a victim of an assault regardless of gender. Through these flashbacks, the picture of how much the writer suffered is clearly brought out. Díaz gives the picture of his assault at an early age by a trusted family friend. This is the main cause of the trauma that he had to bear for the rest of his life.

The hurting truth that he decided not to talk about though it was like a haunting memory. There is someone, ‘X’— who confirms whether Díaz had experienced sexual trauma that is depicted by a character he had in his writings. These repetitions bring out vivid memories of some specific experiences in his piece of work. In addition, Díaz uses repetition to bring out the picture and emphasize on the fact that he was scared (Gibson). He was vulnerable and could feel the weight of shame that traumatized him. The writer was raped at the age of eight, something that turned his life completely. While in college Díaz thought, he was overcoming the trauma, for the first time, he managed to try to put his past behind his back.

The author had many heartbreaking relationships as the women were coming into his life he began to begin experiencing recovery from the stigma. On his road to healing, women came off as bodies and carnage. In the process, as he was trying to deal with the assault and its effects, the women that came across his life were reduced to objects. Love could not control him; he could not control his own life, as he was not able to make such decisions for himself. Women who came across his love life paid the price, they were cheated on and suffered heartbreak. The author brings out that the story is not just about a trauma suffered in the past, but an insidious course that continues to affect the human affairs that continue to affect the society making people suffer.

In the essay, he referred to himself as the Dominican Republic's enforcer for the hemisphere (Stevens). He was fond of writing about a boy who never existed, it was his story but he was hiding under the boy. Societies are trained not to be seeing the world as it really is, full of pervasive social injustices. Judgment and punishments should be used for obviating crimes and offering redemption to the crime victims. He uses evidence of his failed suicide and failed love attempts to bring out the effect of the trauma he underwent in life after the assault. Through the societal problems that inspired the author, he uses serious tone to bring out his point clear. Therefore, through this literature, we learn much about the author and the society that he lived in.
