The Overprotected Kid by Hanna Rosin Article Review

This overprotection does not help but has only stripped childhood of independence, the discovery of more things and taking a risk in life since watching the children does not make them safer. Summary The land is a playground in North Wales which is nearly an acre. Although the playground is new and only two years only, it has no mark of newness, and anyone can confuse it to be there for decades. What is contained in the playground can only be considered as junk since there is a plastic boat, high pile of tires and radio? Besides, there is muddy in the sport at the end of the ground. In the playground, kids play in whichever way they like with minimal supervision from the play workers.

Actions such as walking a third grader to school, going down the slide with your kid or even forbidding your child to play could have been seen as paranoid in the 70s, but in the present day this action is like a routine by the parents to make them feel more responsible(Rosin “The Overprotected Kid”). Parents believe that in this present day there are so many things that are dangerous in their life. The statistic however proved otherwise because even with the close attention given to kids, the number of accidents that kids have remains to be the same and there is no difference between then and now. Several books show the negative consequences of kids losing their independence and self-driven character as it were in the past years.

Children have the sensory need to taste danger whenever they are playing, but that does not mean that anything children do are dangerous. Additionally, walking a third grader to school to school was not common during the 1970s. Children were left to go to school on their own and come back on their own. A parent who was seen to take their third-grade child to school was considered to be paranoid. This has however changed, and now many parents are taking their children to school to make them feel more responsible for their children.
