The main character, Philippe, has a disability known as quadriplegic and gets assistance from a caregiver called Driss. Phillipe is a typical French and extremely wealthy. On the converse, his caregiver is black. Beyond sheer class that is depicted through the enormous show of wealth by Phillipe, the film can be considered as castigating the mainstream French upper class, who take advantage of the racial minorities to advance their interests. Even then, there is an avid interaction between the upper and the lower class. From the above scene, the directors of the film make their point clear; that the aristocrats are only concerned about their interests, and are willing to use any opportunity to gain what they want. Driss is an innocent caregiver who is only being used by Phillippe to attain his needs.

Despite the fact that he is truly quadriplegic, he uses his condition to demand greater attention from society. Class Class is exhibited through wealth. The cinematographic features of the film illustrate the extent to which the aristocrats are willing to go just to live a comfortable life. Perhaps the best way through which one can find the close link between ethnicity and class is through a cinematographic technique of lighting. The aspect of romance depicts the closeness that the two individuals from different races have. Consequently, French society is exhibited as enjoying a condition of harmony among cultures and ethnicities. Culture Through an analysis of the costumes that the protagonists are adorning, the audience comes to appreciate how divergence in the French society fails to signify conflict. Philippe wears a coat, an illustration that he is an intellectual. On the converse, Driss adorns a jacket and a hoody, and this indicates his lower-class status. Hence the distinction between formal and informal wearing makes the film to acknowledge how different costumes imply the extent of culture between different classes. As a true French aristocrat, Phillippe does not panic as the police chase his car.

He knows that he will control the situation, and this is the reason as to why he remains calm. Therefore, the music helps to maintain such an aspect of calmness, where the audience is expected to relax. The directors help the audience to appreciate that Phillippe is used to such a life, and this provides a better perspective of the French society as a whole, which is significantly calm in an environment of great danger. It is evident that the title of the film, ‘the untouchables’ reverberates well with the fact that the French aristocrats are above the law, and that they can get whatever they desire. On the converse, they acknowledge the wealth of the aristocrats, in the sense that they approve that they(aristocrats)are willing to become valuable to the economy even in an incapacitated situation.

Considering that the film is based on a true story, the directors’ assertions may be considered as a true portrayal of the situation in France. In fact, there exist several scenes from the film which can be used to illustrate that a sense of reality exists. The diegetic aspect of sound creates a facet of reality and has been used to showcase that the events in the film are real, even if they were acted. For instance, realism is exhibited through the sirens of police cars, and the horns of other automobiles. The fact that Driss only seeks to get an interview for the position of Phillipe’s caregiver is meant to allow him to continue receiving welfare benefits. Consequently, blacks are construed as lazy, despite their physical prowess.
