It is about creating a link between the people and movements, places, urban form, the built fabric, and nature. Urban design brings together various strands of placemaking, environmental stewardship, social fairness and economic viability into the creation of places with different and unique identity and beauty. Urban design is drawn from the transportation policy and transcends planning, architectural design, development economics, land scope and engineering (Britannica, Inc). It connects these and various other designs which create a vision for a given region and using the required resource to actualize the vision (Alexandria, March 2017). Urban design is also about how to recapture qualities (qualities which we experience and also see) that we connect with the normal city: a sense of belonging, place, order, and richness of experience, continuity, completeness, and order.

Some of the other significant elements of place-making include active business centers, mixed-use growth with ground floor trade uses, context responsive designs and human scale; secure and attractive public places; making of images and decorative elements in the public sphere (Britannica, Inc). The designed urban practice areas vary in scale from small public streets to neighborhoods, city-wide systems, or whole areas. Urban design and city building are importantly one of the most favorable endeavors that outlast its writers. It is a gift of its designers and marks to the future. Urban design is a principled endeavor, stirred by the vision of public art and structural design approved by the science of construction (Alexandria, March 2017). Putting into consideration the process of urban design, thus, is essential to know the activity of building cities and the work of urban designers.

However, while there is the presence of normative and also positive literature on the way cities should be, concerning the methods, process, and procedures of urban design, our understanding is anecdotal, and at least, it is muddled. Many urban designers are in the dark when it comes to this type of understanding/knowledge (Jutraz, A. , & Zupancic-Strojan, T. January 01, 2014). The idea of placemaking is crucial in formation of a viable urban design. It should be not just a physical location but also a place where people feel connected to take designs that are regarded as human scale, customs and the desires of that particular society in regards to location, design, and scale. An urban design should build on the past. Each urban center has the past and every plan will encompass that into new plans.

Building on the existing design assist in saving materials and creating a greater experience instead of a totally new settlement without its own character. A viable design encompasses all kinds of people. Strict and complicated necessities for public procurement and difficulties of acquiring funds approved by voters, and local councils have also made off-budget attainment of public goods increasingly pleasing.
