They are the gatekeepers of major election information in a time when such information can impact the people’s perspectives about a particular candidate. The media plays two major roles in influencing the elections; they are a key news reporting platform and undertake paid advertising. The two are much significant as they take up different dimensions that might in turn influence the entire electoral process in the country. Every media channel has its own level of biased information. They might speculate over a particular issue and take a certain direction. The funds for election ads are usually derived from average Americans who are passionate about candidates, specific interest groups, political action committees who aims at raising and spending money trying to influence the election.

All these individuals play significant roles in determining the wave of an election (Dunn, & Tedesco, 2017). Ads are key elements that make an individual take a suitably likable move considering the exposure that it will subject a particular candidate. To a greater surprise, the taxpayers directly or indirectly fund campaigns. They will pay for party primaries and millions of Americans choose to significantly contribute to the elections. In fact, Facebook was faced with issues concerning data security and how they were able to release such important information concerning the people. According to the pew research Centre it was estimated that approximately 44 percent of the U. S. adults obtained most of the information from social media sites and impacted their general decisions. That was a great strategy that the Republicans used to dominate the elections and become victorious.

The social media made the invisible primary to be visible which allowed unaccredited individuals to register the support fully. It brought light and understanding to the citizens who became aware of what they ought to undertake in the different processes that would influence the way in which they make decisions. The strategy seemed to work for Trump and he went ahead to capitalize on it with a lot of funds and people who could make it a reality. A study to understand the topics which the particular candidates emphasized in their Twitter and Facebook accounts was conducted and how they shifted from one agenda to another. This was necessary to know if indeed social media could play any role in influencing elections.

The research indicates differences among the 2016 presidential candidates through their campaign strategies even though key questions on the differences in social media platforms remain. It was now right to know which of the given findings reflected the unique attributes of the 2016 elections. The only clear component was the fact that internet generated a communication environment that was larger, faster, and more heterogeneous which had never happened before. Obama was considered to be one straight individual who understood the needs of the people and his main aim was to change America. That explains the reason why he was elected for the second term. Citizens might be influenced by the polls in one way or the other. Sometimes such opinion polls might be biased but the end results might just be surprised. It is a key concern for opinion polls to be transferred independently to the people.
