According to V, the desire for happiness is not as important as the desire for freedom. This is what defined Evey, and V felt it was his responsibility to show Evey that tyranny and oppression are more important things to deal with. The fact that V saves Evey from the policemen who would have raped and killed her, makes V Evey’s mentor. Saving her as well as taking her in convinces Evey to put her complete trust in him. V’s reasons for doing this are s that he may be able to gain Evey’s approval for his course, which he intends to make her a part of. This could have either taught her the importance of freedom or simply brainwashed her. V intends to teach Evey his way of life and make her another version of himself.

Evey on the other hand is determined to help V accomplish his goal. This is portrayed especially when Evey is led by V through his lair as he shows her and explains to her the tools and weapons that she can use. The fact that V is portrayed as an apathetic individual is damaging to the relationship with Evey as he lacks any intimate desire or emotional pain. She is even ready to sacrifice her life for the course and at the end of the book, its Evey who ends the mission for V after he dies. This can be seen as something that needed to happen in order to save her from the fascist regime and society free from imprisonment. However, it also displays a slight element the Stockholm Syndrome theme where Evey after being exposed to V’s thinking and reasoning turns out like him.
