Views of a basketball game essay

I remember Dorian introducing me to his friend Joy whom we almost spent the whole evening together. American Airlines Centre is a classic playground which can accommodate more than 2000 basketball fans. The playground was painted green and maroon which resembled the colour of the trophy to be won. The stadium is partitioned in a way that the front seats are taken by VIPs; therefore, I and Joy had our seats at the back. The fans were cheering their teams while the substitute players were near the playground where they were busy stretching their muscles in the preparation of the game. On the other hand, I could clearly see a small group of Native Americans who mostly took the VIP seats. They were less cheerful and about a third of them were chewing Paul Stiven’s chewing gum.

I remember asking Joy why the people from one ethnic group failed to interact much with people from other ethnic groups but I realized that there was also language barrier especially between some African Americans and Latinos where some Latinos were speaking Spanish while most of the blacks spoke the African American Vernacular English. As a routing in western culture, many fans were taking snacks and drinks as the game proceeded. Among the common snacks that I noted are Poblano Pepper Chicken wings, Easy Corn Fritters, baked cocktail meatballs and Vita Coco coconut oil spiced popcorns. Dorian Finny Smith is a prominent player in the team but happened to get a knee injury at the 20th minute of the game thus he was substituted by J Brunson who later gave the winning score.

Evening hours is the best time to play any game and the match took place between 4 pm and 6 pm. This time schedule ensured that the players were fully set and active since the winning team was to get an opportunity to join the semi-finals for the NBA champions. The players were therefore lively and could hardly wasted any chance to score. The game itself had various motivational factors. During the basketball match, I noticed that most of the individuals that I came across were either chewing something or had a bottle of soft drink. Watching the game for 30 minutes also helped me realize that physical games are common across all cultures and ethnicity. The players of both teams were from different ethnic groups although the majority were African Americans. Although physical games are common to different ethnicities and culture, their performance drive varies among cultures.

Dorian Smith is an African American who decided to venture into basketball career so his race could be recognized and appreciated in Texas. The fact that people find time to participate in the basketball game shows their love and support. People from different ethnic groups interact harmoniously where there is tolerance of various cultural ethics and etiquettes in the society. In my opinion, it is very healthy when people from different ethnic groups interact and share ideas. The society also needs to identify various barriers that hinder this interaction and curb them as well. Interaction of different people in the basketball game, for instance, could have created more integration among different ethnic groups in the arena which is important for both personal and national progress.
