The issue of the old is often unreported or hidden, and in New York City there are many unreported cases of abuse on the elderly. In the United States, the change in the demographics have brought about the realization of the issues of age that include the mistreatment on the old people and is therefore essential for the New York City to establish proper social planning. The number of the seniors in New York City increases steadily, and in the lookup of things going into the next decade, the number of the minor youth will be lower than that of the elderly persons. The statistics, therefore, explain the increase in the number of seniors who get affected by cases of violence, robbery, rape and financial fraud. The financial exploitation and fraud problems established can have far-reaching effects on the people about their necessities in their daily life.

The median age in the Elder abuse cases was 65 years. The income level varied and as a result, 39% of the statistics reported an income of $5,001 and $9,999. About 17% had less than $5,000 in revenue. In the research, about 84% of the victims had high school education and others less (Broadhurst, King and Ching 80). were persons with disabilities. The first, fraud committed towards the seniors by strangers and the second, Financial exploitation against the elderly committed by the caregivers and relatives. In New York City the categories at times overlap about the targeted selection and also the manner in which the crime gets to be committed. The difference however in the victim-offender relationships suggests that different analyzing and responding methods to the problem. Fraud by Strangers Against the Elderly The fraud involves the deliberate action to deceive a senior with promises of goods or services and sometimes other benefits, in this case, which does not exist, are not necessary, no intention to provide them and are always grossly misrepresented.

In New York City there are hundreds of such cases, but in most cases, the offenders use a subset of the issues against the victims, in this case, the elderly. Lenders who have ill motives may offer their loan at exorbitant rates with hidden fees or repayment schedules which far exceed the seniors' means. These fraudulent practices in New York city often occur at the risk of the senior losing property, mostly their homes. The fourth, health remedies. The elderly in New York City and anywhere else have health problems. Some offenders offer fraudulent and ineffective remedies that give them false hopes and in turn asffe3cts their health by delaying their treatment which leads to their health deterioration. The person may acquire the legal arrangements to give an offender the authority, in this case, to manage a senior’s property.

Misuse of a power of attorney leads to a rise in cases of fraud highlighted on several occasions in New York City. Sexual Crimes against the Elderly A study carried out in 2010 by Cornell University in collaboration with the Department for the aging in New York City under the Radar NY State Elder Study. The findings showed that the abuse of the elderly persons got to nearly 24 times higher than the cases that got referred to social services. legal authorities or law enforcement. for women. Men were also victims at about 42. which is 1,221 men. The incidents spread in New York city in all the five boroughs prevalent mostly in Brooklyn at 31% and also Queens at 25. Moyer, 482). From 2010 to the present the report on the study conducted on the elderly in New York City presents disturbing revelations that indicate an increase of about 7% in the violent crimes against the seniors. The most reported in the violent crimes is burglary followed by theft and vandalism. In New York City one in every ten cases of burglary involved the seniors at the age of 65 and above. More than 46% of robbery offenses which target the senior take place at home. According to NY State Elder Abuse Study psychological abuse is the most prevalent abuse amongst the elders of about 260,000 adults (Melchiorre et al. A study on the senior women found verbal abuse as one of the primary cause of the older person declines in mental health. The impact is far much more significant than the physical abuse.

The third, financial. There is a need to clearly define and measure the issues required to be addressed to get a better understanding of the violence, abuse, and neglect of senior women. The study, however, has limitations and this is clear to even the people or relatives close to the victims.
