What is good life
It needs deeper thinking and understanding for one to be able to answer it. There are different ways of explaining the philosophical meaning of what is the good life. Some of these ways are in accordance with the moral life, life of pleasure, the fulfillment of life, and the finished life. Through the combination of all the meaning of good life from these perspectives, it will be easier for one to conclude the meaning of good life. Aristotle and Epicurus are some of the Philosophers that have played an important role in explaining this philosophical question. ”(Epicurus). Also, according to Robinson, “good life I all about avoiding of so many opportunities that an individual may have and just specialize in a single opportunity that can provide maximum benefit to such an individual” (Robinson).
From these, it is clear that his view on the meaning of good life is mainly based on being objectivist rather than being subjectivist. According to Aristotle, "happiness is not just about the feeling that one may have inside oneself but the satisfaction of some certain conditions"(Aristotle). Good is a matter of satisfaction of these conditions that include one being morally upright, having good health, being prosperous in life, having good friends around one, having respect to others, being lucky in life as well as discovering of the unique human abilities. One needs to understand this to be able to define what good life is. Historically, having children was considered to be the source of happiness and good life. Those that had children were considered to be much happy than those that did not have.
But this may not be the case as notorious children make the life of their parents unbearable especially during teenage period. But the question remains, does this mean that those that do not have children have better lives than those that have when the children are at teenage? Having children doesn't guarantee one good life, but it gives one meaning of life. We have to view good life regarding moral virtues that an individual has and the kind of society that such a person creates around him or herself. According to the philosophical understanding that I have concerning the meaning of good life, good life comes when one feels loved by those that are around him or her. This will come if one is doing what is considered to be morally upright.
This will also make one have the feeling of being successful not only in life but also in society. What makes wealthy people not to have a good life is because they focus on being successful in life forgetting about being successful in the society. Despite this, life was extremely hard due to the poor relationship that I had with those that were around me. From this experience, I can ascertain that good life is all about creating an enabling environment with those that are around an individual. Work cited Cottingham, John.
