Why Marijuana should be legalized
The topic is discussed on various platforms with some individuals claiming that the plant was in use for many centuries in some parts of the world like China in the ancient times and its use was legal. Other sources support its use and even use some medical backing by claiming that marijuana is, in fact, a medicine which can be used to cure various ailments. The discussion goes on and on with more people and agencies being involved in it. The results are the legalization of growing and usage of marijuana in some countries while in others, the crop is grown under controlled environment and under supervision by the authorities and it is strictly for medical use. In some countries like the US being in possession leave alone using it could land a person in jail for many years.
In the contemporary world, however, cannabis has found even more useful as a source of medicine (Poindexter: Rosenthal et al). According to a post on a research published in the American Public Health Association in 2017 (Williams), there was some positive review obtained through legalization of recreational cannabis in Colorado. People dying from conditions such as those obtained due to use of the opioid for example reduced by a significant 6. Williams). These statistics meant that the number of deaths recorded in Colorado in relation to the condition has just reduced after 14 years of constant increase. It should be noted that these drugs are being produced under the watchful eye of the authorities. This inhibits the ability of more researchers to experiment on the plant and various conditions. Therefore if marijuana is legalized, we are most likely going to have many important inventions in the field of medicine with the plant.
There is a high possibility that cannabis contains chemical components that could be used to cure many other conditions that are yet to be experimented upon. It is upon the government to decide whether to legalize the plant since the facts are out there in the public domain which supports that marijuana is a very important plant medicinally. Outside of that only a few people used in smuggling and vending the drugs and some corrupt officials benefit from the sale of marijuana. The rest of the revenues end up in the pockets few drug lords who restrict in some unknown accounts or strong rooms somewhere. If marijuana is legalized, a large percentage of the population would get the much needs employment (R, Marco). Some people interested in farming would involve in growing the now legal plant and in so doing earn a living out of it for themselves, their families and kin.
These farmers would also require workers to work in the farms which would mean employing many jobless youths in the country. If marijuana is legalized, all these billions of dollars going to waste would be used in developing the nations in various platforms. For example, the money could be used to create employment for the many jobless Americans (Williams). Legalizing marijuana would solve this problem. To conclude, legalizing marijuana would not mean more addiction and possibly more deaths due to the use of the drug since there are more toxic products on the market right now than marijuana that is legal. In fact, the benefits reaped from legalizing as demonstrated in the write would be more compared to when cannabis remains illegal since it only adds into the miseries of the country through trying to curb illegal growth and sale of the drug.
