Every person has their goals and desires in life thus will choose the method or strategy that they will use to achieve their goals. Most of the people will have the right strategy to make it in life but there is a small percentage that requires guidance to ensure that they can become successful. Autonomy over a person's life and body give them an opportunity to decide how to live and how their bodies should function. People have made different choices over their bodies and their lives and this is one of the results of freedom. Despite having autonomy over their lives and bodies, some people have ended up making some questionable decisions on how they should live. Neurologists have stated that BIID results from a disruption of the body image which gives an individual the urge to make some changes that make them feel fit in their bodies.

Based on the choices that people with BIID make, there should be restrictions on people's autonomy to their lives and bodies. In this case, BIID is a disorder that can increase the number of people living with disabilities in the world. The decision made by people with the disorder show the need to help them through counseling to make the right choices in life. The decision to go through amputation without any health problem also shows that individuals do not appreciate the image of their bodies. Based on the societal beliefs, every person should have a right to their lives and autonomy to their bodies. Since the patients with BIID make decisions on how to live, it would be unethical to deny them the chance to make their lives as they would wish.

Medical practitioners who may deny the BIID patients the opportunities they want would be seen as unethical and one who does not support autonomy to life and body. On the contrary, performing amputations on healthy limbs or altering with the spinal cord also appear unethical in medical practices because they should only be applied in the case of serious health problems. There should be restrictions on autonomy based on the impact that it has on society. An increase in the number of the disabled will imply that some of the energetic and productive people will no longer use their skills in their jobs. Others will depend on their families and close people to provide them with their basic needs. Voluntary disabilities show the lack of an ethical society that just because a person wants to be disabled no one will question their choices (Walter, 2014).

When looking at the people with disabilities, it is clear that most of them do cannot engage in activities that make their lives better as they will have to depend on others in one way or the other. BIID patients should have restrictions on their autonomy because they may end up altering the way in which the society operates. Autonomy to people's lives and bodies is important in society because it enables people to make the right choices in their lives. BIID is one of the disorders that requires restrictions and limitations on autonomy because the choices made have more of negative implications to individuals and the society (Bottini, Brugger & Sedda, 2015). Ethical considerations should apply to provide autonomy and freedom in people's lives.
