Mentorship has been noted to play a major role in healthcare department and organizations in steering toward achieving business objectives and goals. For a career development, mentorship is inevitable as it provides relevant guidelines providing directions toward the right ways of doing things. This paper, therefore, provides a clear organizational definition of mentorship in relation to proper business communication, its importance and drawbacks and the role mentorship plays in personal career development. In the healthcare department, mentoring is considered as a vital process which basically includes orientation and facilitation of novice nurses to perform their role properly by an experienced nurse in a hospital or healthcare center. In healthcare organizations, mentoring and proper communication has developed to be an essential component for educating nurses and healthcare providers as well as ensuring sustainable healthcare leadership.

Through mentorship, the mentees are guided toward following policies and procedures provided in ensuring work ethics. Mentorship through orientation ensures that the healthcare providers’ skills and experiences are periodically monitored and evaluated to maintain high standards of the working environment. The mentorship program ensures that healthcare providers, nurses and the clinical officers provide the patients with safe and effective care that ensures the safety of the patients. During mentoring process for the healthcare providers, the main focus is usually on the assessment, clinical reasoning, and intervention of healthcare processes. Benefits of mentoring in a healthcare organization Mentorship program in the healthcare arena plays a major role in facilitating best clinical practices among the healthcare providers and growing professionalism for mentors and mentees.

The mentee is trained on how to communicate any issue of concern to the management, the patient, the patient’s family and the interdisciplinary team in relation the patient’s health status. Personal communication and self-expression in the workplace are also enhanced through mentorship programs. Drawbacks of informal and formal mentorship programs and relationship Mentorship programs are faced with various barriers and drawbacks thus hindering the main aim of the programs which is basically to enable successful mentor-mentee relationship. These drawbacks may include lack of faculty sensitivity, inappropriate academic preparation, cultural miscommunication, the feeling of isolation, and fearing to fail. Some mentee also faces difficulties in the establishment of a good relationship with their peers and lacks professional role models they can emulate.

The motivating factor in my career advancement includes the creation of appropriate role modeling, acceptance and confirmation, counseling and friendship. Mentorship friendship provides emotional support in career development, encouraging self-reliance and taking leadership responsibilities in healthcare management. As a nurse profession, mentorship plays a major role in my career through the establishment of educational baseline that supports my moral cognitive in performing my duties. Among the interesting section in mentoring is on dealing with the patients on a personal basis as I have learned to maintain patient privacy and improve my service delivery in healthcare service provision.
