The study will utilize Beck’s Depression Inventory to measure the degree of depression of respondents. Statistical outcome of the two observations is expected to vary significantly. Participants that receive treatment using cognitive behavior therapy are likely to show lower rates of depression compared to those that undergo psychoanalysis. Moreover, it is predicted that ex-military personnel that served in higher ranks will exhibit a higher level of positive change in their levels of depression. Equally, it is anticipated that the results in different ethnic groups will be relatively similar. According to Nasveld (2018), persons lifted from the combat areas because of physical injuries have a high likelihood of suffering from a post-traumatic stress disorder. However, there are no explorative studies that indicate the effects of injuries sustained in wars on other mental conditions, for example, anxiety and depression.

Many researchers argue that utilizing longitudinal studies enhances the exploitation of long-term efficiency of treating post-traumatic stress disorder using either cognitive behavior therapy or psychoanalysis. In 1976, Beck formulated a framework that focused on the treatment of depression, which he identified as cognitive therapy (Bordens & Abbott, 2014). A series of developments in cognitive therapy has resulted in the establishment of more complex approaches that are essential in the treatment of other mental disorders such as anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. Psychoanalysis treatment is inclined towards exploring the re-engagement of techniques of adaption through exploiting issue the are unconscious by utilizing tolerable approaches so that to make it conscious. The purpose of this form of treatment is understanding the implications of the traumatic events through the prism of the affected individual's personality, beliefs, and the things they have experienced.

The psychological interpretations of those activities are viewed using different approaches, for example, identifying and separating the differences created by the occurrence of something, fears associated with a particular experience, and fantasies attached to the event. Naß and Efferth (2017) argue that treatment methods used in such cases include the following; supportive techniques, directive strategies, transference, and exploring insight oriented advice. Even though the success of psychoanalysis therapy has a long history in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder, it is known to depend on the integration of cognitive behavioral therapy methods so that to make sure it is effective. However, the model has been important in providing a general framework that provides theoretical and empirical explorations (Pollock, 2015). The most important area that has been influenced is the establishment and testis of social cognitive structures of mental health over the past two decades.

Study Rationale Despite the extensive use of both cognitive behavioral therapy and psychoanalysis; there is lack of a study that examines the comparative effectiveness of the two treatment approaches. This research is the first to explore the relative effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy and psychoanalysis in treating ex-military personnel suffering from the post-traumatic stress disorder. A combination of naturalistic technique and controlled trials are utilized to investigate the most effective approach to treating depression among veterans that were negatively impacted by their combat roles. Sampling A sample size of one-hundred participants will be used in the study where each treatment group will have fifty members. The researcher wills organize with the Ministry of Defense so that to be helped to access the retired officers.

The Ministry of Defense organizing team will assist in the identifying of individuals that are likely to meet the requirements of the study. The potential respondents’ will be examined to ensure they meet all the required criteria. Individuals that are eligible and willing to take part in the study will be selected, and they will be allocated to receive treatment either through cognitive behavioral therapy or psychoanalysis. The data collection process will take place within three hours. The respondents will undergo treatment for one hour, left to interact with other members for another one hour, and asked to converge to fill the questionnaire concerning the effect of the treatment. Data collection is an essential part of any study that deems to gain reliability, credibility, and validity.

Therefore, the framework of the instrument used in the recording of information must cover all the required dynamics. The heterogeneity of the participants used in the research is significant because it helps in lowering the level of biasness, hence, making the data more valuable and credible. Equally, the consistency and validity of the materials employed in the study are 0. 9 and 0. 82 respectively. Data Analysis The objective of this analysis is to determine if there is a statistically significant difference between cognitive behavioral therapy and psychoanalysis with respect to the level of depression (represented as a score from the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale). The independent variable is the treatment, and the dependent variable is depression score. Conclusion The research proposal has covered all the expected dynamics in this study.
