The place we work can either impact the environment positively or negatively. Corporate participation in social and community welfares help guard the environment against pollutants. Corporate social responsibility is a sort of social regulations and policies that have been integrated into the corporate aspect of the business. Companies are therefore obligated to adhere to the set rules and social conducts aimed at protecting the environment around the businesses. CSR can, thus, be defined as actions taken by a company ranging from donations and charity participation to ethical trading (Sri Urip. Moreover, the essay will discuss the link between CSR and the ecological environment. Corporate companies are significant contributors to the economy of a nation. However, they are also one of the major causes of environmental degradation.

CSR ensures that these companies operate within the required policies to avoid environmental pollution. Companies that are socially responsible formulate and implement policies with the neighboring communities in mind (Mróz-Gorgoń, 2013). Additionally, a company should look at the possibility of hiring members of the neighboring community. In doing so, the company contributes to raising the living standards of a region which in turn translates to economic prosperity. On the other hand, a business ought to engage n activities that cause less environmental pollution if not none. Such activities include; proper waste dumping, reuse and recycle water, energy conservation, and reduced air pollution. A company that engages in such activities is referred to as an eco-friendly business organization. Its qualities lie in the models and incorporate Think Water, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Eco-Innovation Program.

For example, the company has presented an innovation that constrains the amounts of water that can be utilized in a urinal. This gadget capacities to dispose of the need to flush urinals each time they are used accordingly sparing a considerable measure of water (Mróz-Gorgoń, 2013). The periodical provides a functional case of a creative technique for safeguarding the environment. Such activities are examples of how companies can positively impact the environment. These companies pollute the environment in ways such as: • Industrial wastes – especially harmful and radioactive waste have become a critical problem in environmental pollution. • Noise pollution, also an essential by-product of industries; industrial products causes much noise. • Deposits of industries called the effluents are freed into the environment without any regulation which pollutes the environment, affecting the underground water and sea life.

Therefore, the needs of industries are increased, resulting in overexploitation and stress on natural resources. Apple helps its staff members to reduce commute emission by providing transit subsidy to its large number of employees and others carpooling in commuter buses (Sri Urip. Another company worth mentioning is IBM. It has been a leader in sustainability for several years. The company is at the forefront to reduce greenhouse emissions by 30% by the year 2020. IBM also uses renewable forms of energy to power more than 25% of its operations. Specific CSR policies affect consumers purchasing habits.
