Additionally, children have different capacities of understanding information and processing the different situations posed to them. Hence, early learning provides for avenues in which children may learn new things using various methods. Play is one of the methods that are used to gauge early learning. How children interact with other children and their environment is a factor to consider with regard to early learning (Dowling 15). In this directive, the four play areas that will be discussed in this regard and how they assist the teacher in assessing how the children are learning are; construction play, role play, small world, and play-dough and sand. Therefore, role plays from a general perspective may be equated to acting. Characters in the different films watched usually take up roles that do not necessarily represent themselves but the characters they seek to highlight in the films.

Therefore, while they presume other roles, they project the character and nature of the role’s persona and not their own. Role-playing as a form of imitation whether scripted or actual represents developmental insight on the creativity and mastery of the actors is passing the desired message to their audience. In the case of children, role-playing may also be used for entertainment and learning purposes. Ideally, it is a form of story-telling in which, the teacher begins the story and the child is to develop the storyline and how they would want to have the story to flow. Practically, this method of learning is interactive and delves into building the creativity of the child. Furthermore, the interaction of the children is not centralized.

This is such that, the child is allowed to explore different approaches to narrating their story. This may include the use of props, the use of visual representations in the form of drawings and paintings and even the child is allowed to involve others. The ‘building’ of sand castles and narrating stories about them helps the children learn about more things in an active and participatory manner (Moyles 7). Play-dough on the other hand just like sand play channels the creativity of the child to creating or molding characters that will have a story behind them. Essentially, the molding will involve things that they see and how they perceive them to be in character. Hence, in their assessment, teachers get the opportunity to understand the perception of the children with regard to their creations and narrations.
