As a result, the CEO Jordan Smith has organized a meeting with the marketing department members together with their leaders since he thinks poor and outdated marketing tactics have resulted to the drastic fall in prices. During the meeting, Smith gave all the members an opportunity to air his or her views on what had resulted to the problem and how it could be mitigated quickly to reinstall the company to high profits (Antonakis & Day 2017). During the meeting, everyone including senior managers and the subordinates gave out their views, and the session was very successful at the end. During the meeting it was agreed that poor marketing strategies and inadequate modern technology might have resulted in poor performance; this is because the company could not reach potential customers nor convince potential customers about their products.

As we all know a firm which is in operation but does not advertise its products is as good as dead, Jordan Smith agreed to provide the marketing department with modern and advanced machines which they could use to market the company. 1b. Engaging the marketing department was a very effective move by the leader of the organization, providing the platform for airing out their opinions was also very bold and showed his abilities as a leader. However, summoning and discussing the issues with the marketing department was however not an effective idea; this is because he was not sure where the problem resulting in low sales had originated. Probably it wasn’t the marketing department which had resulted in the poor results by the company.

He should have engaged the whole organization in the meeting; this way he would have multiple opinions from all members of the organization (Mencl, Wefald & Ittersum 2015). Being a leader is not all about showing direction, but also assessing one’s employees whether they are doing what is expected of them. The leader should personally evaluate each employee to see whether he is doing what is expected of them. Individual-level evaluation will make some of the employees improve their working abilities since they fear the punishments which come along with poor performance. c. Provide training to the employees. His ability to summon the marketing department and provide solution shows that he is a transformational leader. Integrity. When the sales of the company start to fall drastically, Jordan seeks to know what the problem is by summoning the marketing department and demanding to know what the problem may have resulted in the poor performance (Sultan, Khan & Kanwal 2017).

The ability to hold the department responsible individually shows that he is a leader of honesty and integrity. Strategic planning. By staying positive, he can solve the problem eventually with the help of the marketing department. Responsibility. The organization’s CEO can be termed as responsible since he concerned about the welfare of the organization and goes ahead to mitigate the problem they have. 3a Reflection What I learned from the situation and particularly from Jordan Smith is that being a leader does not necessarily mean giving of orders and commands, rather it means humbling oneself with the rest of the employees in order to achieve the objected goal of the organization. I also learned that as a leader I should engage my employees ranging from the top or senior manager to the subordinate employees, by doing so employees will feel valued and part of the organization.

Being a leader, it is necessary for one to have a focus on the organization and focus on the specific initiatives and tasks which will oversee the accomplishment of the organization’s projects (Sosik & Jung 2018). Having a vision will involve strategic thinking and competence in developing capabilities and skills which will help enhance value proposition. Communication skills. The communication I an organization is very critical especially now that responsibilities have increased in the organization. Communication entails speaking of the truth at all times; regardless one is giving good or bad news. Inspire others. Being a leader means that I am part of a team; it is my responsibility as the leader to continually motivate my team members towards achieving the overall goal through collaboration and partnerships.

When my team is in need of guidance or encouragement, it is my responsibility to ensure I provide. Training and education. Often many of the leadership skills are learned or acquired through experience; it is important for me as a leader to go for training in seminars and camps which offer this kind of training. Culture. When there is little or no engagements between the management and the employees, an environment of uncertainty, complexity, ambiguity, and volatility is created. This can majorly contribute to poor or lack of implementation of my philosophy in the organization. Personal challenges Perfectionism. Often, one may have the desires to achieve certain things which he or she might have set at the begging, however, due to the desires to achieve these goals perfectly at the end; one may end up losing focus along the way.
