Hand hygiene directly affects all hospital staff that is involved in direct patient care. The importance of hand hygiene dates back to the 1800s when it was first proven effective in reducing the number of infections. Since then, the hand hygiene studies and compliance have tremendously improved but is still not up to par. The evidence was gathered directly from the infection control department at OGHS, as well as MEDLINE PubMed and Academic Search Complete. In order to increase compliance, healthcare systems must work with staff to discover quick and easy ways to perform hand hygiene. For example, physicians and nurse assistants tend to have the notion that since they are not nurses and they have minimal contact with patients they are not required to adhere to hand washing routines (Mathur, 2011).

Secondly, the lack of role models for young nurses and other professionals to learn from makes many people ignore these procedures. Thirdly there is the factor of understaffing and patient crowding (Hong et al. Due to understaffing practitioners are engaged to the extent that there is little or no time available to engage in proper hand hygiene routines. In addition to this practitioners give patients needs the first priority in the limited time available rather than focusing on procedures such as hand washing. This is through the provision of long-term strategies such as multimodal strategies that have a great chance of changing and positively promoting hand hygiene compliance in healthcare (Williams & Cullen, 2016). Conversely, the proposed change greatly involves the staff who are at the forefront of affecting them.

This implies that upon utilization these strategies will have a high chance of success (Hong et al. Description of problem In order to understand the importance of hand hygiene, it is important to know the risks that health care workers face and how these risks occur. There are two types of microbes that are present on a person's hand (Mathur, 2011). It is estimated that on average the human body shades approximately ten epithelial cells in a day. Since some of the microorganism are present on the shaded cells they can contaminate the surfaces that they come into contact with. This will include beds, furniture or linen that is worn by the patient. This implies that even when performing low risk or “clean” procedures such as recording the blood pressure of patient’s health care workers are at risk of getting contaminated or carrying these pathogens.

The above-stated reasons show the importance of hand hygiene compliance in medical institutions. This evaluation method will also sow the importance of hand hygiene. Dissemination The findings from the implemented design will be summarized on tables and illustrated by charts and then typed and printed in order to ensure the change or difference that has been affected by adhering to hand washing routines. The dissemination of findings through the stated method makes it easier to interpret or draw conclusions from the data. In addition to this, it makes it easier to see the difference before and after the implementation of changes. Conclusion Hand hygiene is one of the simplest and least expensive methods of disease prevention and reducing the spread of contagious disease in healthcare institutions.
