C. Chris McCandless is a gifted scholar and good in athletics. At his tender age, he portrays high moral values, deep passion, and intensity in his thinking (Krakauer, Franklin, & OverDrive, Inc, 2013). Immediately after graduating from the high school Chris undertakes a summer road trip across the country. During this road trip, Chris realizes that his biological father had a second family when he was young. He ensures that he does not acquire a lot of possessing. During this time he gets new friends who love his intensity and passion to live fully but in turn, he pushes them away and avoids any intimacy with them(Krakauer, Franklin, & OverDrive, Inc, 2013). He wanders around for two years until one day a plan came to his mind of going to live in the wilderness all by himself, completely away from anyone.

In his plan, he wanted to have few supplies. In order to get prepared for the adventure, Chriss pushes himself to the extream for few months so that he can be fully prepared. Some weeks later, hunters find McCandless body in a deserted bus, which has been his shelter the whole time, while he was in the mountains away from people and his family (Krakauer, Franklin, & OverDrive, Inc, 2013). Characters Analysis Jon Krakauer This is the narrator and the author of them into the wild. Jon’s life is somehow parallel to the life of Chris. He is obsessed with mountain climbing since he was a teen to the correct age. He has also an issue with his father Just as Chris had an issue with the authoritative male figure (Korda, 2010).

He is also a hunter and is among the people who find Chris body. Gordon Samel Samuel is an employee of Ken at the Anchorage body shop. He is also in the group of the people who finds the body of Chris McCandless (Korda, 2010). Ferdie Swanson Ferdie works in the construction field, a friend to Gordon and Ken. He is also in the group that finds Chris’ body in the bus. He turns fifty-six years old when Chris dies. He has the characteristics of his son which are passionate, taciturn and stubborn. He is also a talented musician (Korda, 2010). Billie McCandless Billie is the mother of Chris and Carine. They meet with Walt while working as a secretary. They stay written contact until when Chris went to the mountain (Korda, 2010).

Peter Kalitka Peter Kalitka is a private investigator who was supposed to look for Chris whereabouts. The other minor characters include; George Dreeszen- is an assistant manager at the McDonalds Lory Zarza- is the second assistant manager at the McDonalds company. Charlie- Crazy old man who hosts Chris. Ronald Franze-eighty year old friend to Chris ad a Christian. He was the first to get the news of Chris’s death from the authorities. Loren Johnson- He is the maternal grandfather of Chris. Who has the same personality traits as Chris. Gordy Cucullu- this is a member of the cross-country club headed by Chris as the Captain. Eric Hathaway- this is a friend to Chris while in High school Kris Maxie Gillmer- a close friend of Chris and a member of the Cross country.

The most notable of this plethora are the mountain ranges, glaciers, and the river floods. This includes the description of the Alaska range near Mt. McKinley and the devil's thumb at Alaska also (Linson et al. This brings the reader closely into the mystery of nature and allows them to decide if nature is beautiful or not. By describing the sublime nature it leads to questions arising if the weather writing can bring justice to its subjects or not. He sees that wilderness as a place of freedom free from the world and the evil of the current society. McCandless believes its only in the wilderness that one can find rest, know what he is really made of, and individuals live by their own rules.

This belief is not foolish per se but we find that McCandless finds some answers in the wilderness on how to live (Vedder, Kasper, Vedder, & Hoopla digital, 2017). On the other hand, Chris thought living in the wilderness is romantic which he found out that it was a lie. Chris gets a hard time to find food in the wilderness for his survival and finally, he dies. Chris believes that the ultimate freedom is to live alone in the wilderness, wherein the wilderness the only laws to be followed are the laws of nature. This kind of freedom requires one to totally isolated from everyone. Since when one stays with people he/she is obligated to them. This kind of freedom to some extent can be view as selfish and of self-interest.

Chris decides to live by his own rules and only adhere to the rule of nature, this action serves his own best interest. The risk of activities by Krakauer, made him reflect and meditate on his life. This is because he is often a mistake from death. When faced with such risks he critically focuses and finds solutions to avoid the things that would have caused his death. He feels that he knows what he is capable of and does not need the help of people or the society in order to live and survive in this world. This can be seen as the thrill of accomplishment of man and only nature. At high school Chris says he has a moral problem with giving and receiving gifts, this hurts the people who care about him, even though this decision is based on his morality.

The Elusiveness of Identity Knowing someones true identity or the elusiveness of identity is a theme that is largely presented in the book. Every individual in some way tries to either to identify themselves or to identify someone else. Krakauer spends more than three years of his life trying to understand who Chris McCandless is and putting together the first article about him. He goes around to find people who had, hed contact with Chiss so that to get the information to write in the article. The main problem comes up in that, their ambition is not in line with the ambition of their sons. This brig a ridge between them. their strong wills and passion for their ambitions are totally different from their father's ambitions (Vedder, Kasper, Vedder, & Hoopla digital, 2017).
