Modern technology provides value, entertainment, and convenience since people are able to learn new things from it on a daily basis. Modern technology has reduced a lot of burden in our lives and it has provided people with a lot of time and energy to do whatever they want. Unfortunately, the younger age people are the most affected group by the development of technology (Subrahmanyam, 2000). The younger ages are nowadays addicted to watching television and playing computer games as opposed to playing outdoors with friends. Technology has impacted negatively to people’s health and social lives. 233-249) argues that “we have become people unable to comprehend the technology we invent”. Whybrow explains that technology does not safeguard the inventors but it rather makes the inventors be at a higher risk of being attacked by terrorists.

Gassmann et. al. (2010) opposes Whybrow’s statement by saying that an individual can protect himself or herself from terrorism and crimes by being anonymous on the internet. Rice et al. believe that technology is not prone to errors since they are operated by human beings. Townsend disagrees with that opinion by stating that technology has created more inconveniences since they cannot work in the absence of electricity and they are likely to cause a lot of errors since they may fail to perform the right task as they have been directed and automated to work. Technology has led to an overreliance on digital gadgets such as computers and phones which has led to the development of emotional and health problems. Overreliance on gadgets has led to people storing all their public and private documents such as texts, pin numbers, bank account numbers and photographs on phones and computers.

Redondo believes that hard copies are the best since they can always be available to use when one’s gadget is lost or stolen. Redondo believes that hard copies provides maximum privacy since no one can easily access the documents as opposed to the digital gadgets where a person can easily hack one’s password and transfer the files to his or her phone or email. Technology, especially the use of digital media has led to the manipulation of images and other objects which has led to people living fake lives rather than relying on the truth. Development of various technological products such as Photoshop and other editing tools has led to a widespread manipulation of videos, audios, and photos. Manipulation has led to people living fake lives by incorporating such features in their daily lives because they find it fun living fake lives rather than being true to themselves.

Ashurst (2012) believes that human beings designed the machines and thus, they are capable of operating them by understanding some concepts in the machine and giving the machine time to perform the assigned tasks. Anthonypillai (2014) on the other hand blames human beings for making the machine appear as too complicated and hard to operate. Technology, especially televisions and computers has led to addiction among children which has impacted negatively on their physical health. Children nowadays are addicted to watching cartoons and other children programs on television as opposed to the past where children could spend most of their time playing outdoors with friends and listening to old stories from their grandparents. Children prefer playing computer games rather than going outside to climb trees or to play hide and seek with friends.
