To ensure success of the JIT system, a number of technical requirements and elements are required. These elements are continuous improvement, elimination of waste, quality sources, efficient and flexible workflow, simplification, respect for all participants, focus on needs of customers, and good relations with key suppliers. JIT system defines the seven types of waste. They include processing waste, the idle time of machinery, defective products, transportation, overproduction, motion, and inventory. The article titled “Toyota redefines JIT with Tundra Program” by Tom Murphy explains how Toyota Motor Engineering is aiming at implementing the JIT system in their new project. Additionally, the assembling company will only make what is required at a specific time and amount. This means that there will be a waste due to idling time of machinery.

The Tundra program should also consider the needs of customers who would like to have additional information or choice. Respect for people is one of the principles of JIT, which is not mentioned in this article. This principle states that success of JIT will depend on respect for employees, customers, suppliers, and management. Conclusively, the JIT system is highly beneficial to the production line of the manufacturing company. It ensures that customers are satisfied while keeping the returns of investment high. If a company wants to apply the JIT concept, they need to ensure their resources are well organized and ensure that the managers and engineers have a common mindset to ensure the enterprise’s logistics problems are solved.
