In other words, people still consider drug addiction as a crime instead of an illness. In fact, the above article further indicates that drug use is compulsive and difficult to control and with various initiative reasons. There are various consequences of drug abuse personally, as well as socially. The most obvious is personal health, it causes a serious physical ailments heart attack or even death. Socially, crime rate may increase as addicts may commit to burglary or homicide to get drugs which disrupt and harm social harmony. In order to find out the relationship among the indicators, using the drug use as the dependent variable and life satisfaction, anxiety, depression and suicide rate as the predictor variables correlation statistical method was used.

Normally there are two types of correlation namely Pearson and Spearman correlation. A correlation coefficient shows the strength of the relationships between the variables (Takahashi & Kurosawa, 2016). All these types of correlations are used but, in this research, the Pearson correlation method was employed. It is used in this study because its coefficients measure the linear relationship between two variables and more which are available in our study. Regression models comprise of unknown parameters (β), the dependent variable (Y) and independent variables (X) (Takahashi & Kurosawa, 2016). In our study, we are using drug use variable as the dependent variable to be predicted by life satisfaction, anxiety, depression and suicide rate. Results Using correlation and regression analysis to depict whether mental illness causes lesser happiness and suicide rate the following results were obtained.

Correlation Analysis Using Pearson correlation method for the analysis it was found out that there is a positive as shown below using drug use as the dependent variable and suicide rate as the independent variable. See Table 1. Using the equation , where “Y” is the drug use which is the independent variable, it is clearly seen that as life satisfaction value increases the drug use is also increased. This rise in drug use makes the person feel moody and hopelessness reducing their happiness. Anxiety Our linear regression equation used in testing how drug use affects anxiety is. Approximately using the Beta coefficient of anxiety as -0. 368 as the constant and 0. 11 increase in suicide it is due to an increase in the drug use.

More suicide rates increase as long as there is an increase in the drug usage. Graph Regression The figure below shows the regression line graph on drug use against the suicide rate. The graph provides a visual impression on the trend rise drug use as the suicide rate increases. See figure 1 below. The factors that were discussed in order to reach a valid conclusion included anxiety, depression, life satisfaction, and suicide rate (Pfeifer, Bartsch, Hemmer & Reisch, 2017). From the correlation analysis, it clearly indicates that substance use in that case drug use affects people is lives. The results showed that life satisfaction is greatly affected by drug use. Life satisfaction is the subjective cognitive assessments individuals make in relation to the worth of their general lives or the eminence of the detailed domain inside their lives.

Looking at the results of the correlation and regression analysis there is a positive indication that drug use and life satisfaction are highly correlated. A dual diagnosis is where a person is suffering both drug addiction and depression mental disorder. The results of the correlation analysis depict positive correlation hence a degree of relationship among drug use and depression. The suicide rate is also highly affected by drug addiction. Suicide refers to ending your own life as a result of escaping suffering or pain. People who are engaged in substance use have been reportedly taking their own life (Stapinski, Montgomery & Araya, 2016). It’s very vital for family members and close friends to exhibit love and moral support, but most cases contacting qualified psychological experts is the most crucial thing a person can do.

Nevertheless, the current study has some limitations. The data for the research had some missing values or data and therefore not leading to properly predicting results. The data does not also include most of the countries around the world and therefore few samples available for the study (Pfeifer, Bartsch, Hemmer & Reisch, 2017). In the future research, it is highly recommended that the data should contain more variables such as gender, age and weight of different groups of people. , Bartsch, C. , Hemmer, A. , & Reisch, T.
