The Impact of Mobile Devise Distractions during Couples One on One Interaction

Technological distractions such as texting and sending pictures can determine the course of the relationship (Miller & Kelly, 2016). The purpose of this experiment is to determine how mobile devices can influence the couple’s feelings towards each other. The participants will be comprised of the 40 sexually active couples that have been in a romantic set-up for up to six months. Couples will be randomly classified to either experimental group or control group. For better and accurate results, the couples will be asked to reveal and discuss the current problem that affects their relationship. The article cites Dr. Edward Hallowell’s book titled Married to Distraction Intimacy and Age of Interruption. The book examines the problems experienced by couples in the wake of the technology as well as providing a crucial month-long therapy of restoring intimacy in romantic relationships.

Although the book provides detailed insights, the author does not back his suggestions with scientific evidence. The research on the mobile phone use by couples has concentrated on the impact of technological communication with one another and the trend affects their relationship. 210 participants, of whom 69% were women, were involved in the survey. The interview assessed the rules’ the participants have put in place concerning the use of cell phones while with their partners, satisfaction arising from the cell phone use, perceptions regarding the connections and the autonomy, and the two open ended questions regarding the likelihood of conflicts arising from the cell phone use. The results from this research showed that partners who were not happy with the use of the cell phone in their respective relationships were also not satisfied with the amount of time they spend together with their partners.

These results showed that cell phones are capable of causing serious problems among the young couples. Relationship Problems For purposes of determining what problems the couples were facing in their relationships, a questionnaire will be developed to explore the areas of conflict. They will be then enlightened about the experiment and requested to sign the consent forms. After giving consent, the participants will be directed to fill out the packet which includes the ACQ and POMS (Harris, 2017). After completing the packet, they will be brought back together. The instructor will then examine the problems the couples have recorded and ask them to discuss those challenges for 15 minutes. Depending on the condition, the couples will be allowed to discuss their problems without interruptions. The correlation data will examine how addictive use of cell phones affects a romantic relationship.

The study will also determine who between men and women are likely to be distracted by a mobile phone or the partner who is likely to feel offended. Another hypothesis is the amount of time the couplers spend to discuss their problems. The research will determine whether the time committed in discussing a problem has an impact in the overall welfare of the relationship.
