The author depicts Desiree as a motherly, gentle and loving and is living for the husband. The fact that she loves his husband desperately indicates that she has no emotions of her own. According to the author, ‘his husband's frown makes her tremble while a smile makes her ask for no greater blessings from God (Chopin, Kate, 2). Desiree lacks any say over her life and is overly in control by her husband. Similarly, Mrs. Mallard death occurs from the shock she lives upon realizing that her husband is not dead since it means that she will lose the identity that she has acquired after the perceived death of his husband. Kate Chopin uses Desiree and Mrs. Mallard in an attempt at portraying an objective of creating equality among these two women who have suffered oppression at the hands of their husbands.
