In certain areas of India, beef is not eaten as it is believed to be a holy animal. Meat from cats and dogs is not tolerated in the West, but are delicacies in others. Similarly, Muslims are forbidden from consuming pork from a religious perspective. A lot of their beliefs are taken from the holy book - The Quran. There are at least 4 verses mentioned in the book that state that pork is not to be eaten. One of the verses mentioned in the Quran translates as follows: With regards to food, that which is forbidden for you are carrion meat, spilled blood, and the meat of pigs. Meat over which the name of Allah is not spoken is forbidden. Any other name of God mentioned over the meat is also forbidden.

This section of the Quran acts as the baseline for food laws that all Muslims follow. The first section states that they have to stay away from eating meat from an animal that is already dead. The final section means that the meat of animals killed in any other method is prohibited. There is a specific word used in the Quran which describes pork. In Arabic, this word means anything that isn’t pure, unhealthy, and harmful to consume. Pork is not regarded as “dirty”, but rather something to stay away from. There are a high number of toxins, pathogens, and other risks in pork. These diseases can also affect humans and be potentially fatal. Many reports show how pork is acutely responsible for food-based illnesses around the world.
