He explored abstract subjects and figure painting in the early years of the 1930s. He started becoming specific in his works where one of his works known as “Pink Angels” became notable. He depicted women in a variety of ways which mostly dominated his paintings for many decades. He also explored landscapes in his paintings and even made some paintings on sculptures1. This essay explores how Willem de Kooning’s works effectively put the focus on spearheading the representation of women in his works. The works were remarkable in emphatic styles that reflected the different results of the artist. In his series, De Kooning executed different screen patterns that included course and granular materials that reflected the dispersed pigment to reflect his desired figures.

His methods of applying different aspects of his painting showcased complex additions in his works. He involved the manipulation of different angles of lighting and reflection to perfectly display his art. Part of “Woman” was executed with immediacy and speed. The “Woman” series became one of his signature series that highlighted his whole career2. In the Painting “Seated Woman,” De Kooning disrupted the compositional perspective. He also disrupted the present boundary between drawing and painting. Drawing is mostly regarded as being different from painting in the classical tradition. De Kooning effectively utilized the use of oil painting, crayon and graphite where it was not easy to know whether it was a painting or a drawing. He instinctively managed to use still movement to relay different surface angles of appearances3.

De Kooning moved to a less realistic depiction in his artworks. He was not a fan of surrealism, but he put more emphasis on the unconscious mind and inner life. His works reinforced the level of his impatience that included impatience that included a realistic depiction regarding the world. During this period, De Kooning began his black and white abstractions that closely worked on with other artists. This message was being relayed by Kooning at this point in time to reflect how women had been affected with segregation against issues of not being accepted fully in society. In essence, Kooning had been depicted as an activist who was able to champion the rights of women in society in order to express the equality between human beings.

Artworks that were brought out by Kooning spoke highly of women because he put more focus on the structure of the female body. His journey also indicated that the process of art in the life of De Kooning had taken another step towards making a difference in the lives of women. People had the ability to use De Kooning’s art in order to realize the value and responsibility of women in society4. Other artists in the industry did not positively take his work seriously until when he came to the limelight. The painter could add different angles of dynamism into his paintings to reflect wide spectrums of artwork. His markings were unique and complex to understand in certain cases. He used constant reworking strategies that enabled him to become successful in his painting career.
