Attention Step Imagine being terminally ill and unable to do anything apart from just laying in a hospital bed and piling up hospital bills day by day. Normal human activities, such as sitting, walking and going to the toilet, all become extremely difficult to do. You are in deep pain that seems to never go away, despite all the medications prescribed to you by doctors. All your family and friends support you in this state. However, their support cannot bring any change or hope. Various individuals that come from places where euthanasia is illegal travel to other places to get it done. These places can be those that are legally allowed to practice the act or where the euthanasia is practiced illegally with no guidelines (Venosa, 2016).

For instance, it may be illegal in Michigan but people on a suicide mission can travel to Oregon and have the same done without having any legal implications. For example, in the case of Maynard, she moved to Oregon to establish residency from California since in Oregon, people 18 years and older and have mental competence and of course six months or less to live qualify to have an assisted suicide (Richardson, 2015). Here’s proof that this is a serious problem Euthanasia is being practiced already but indirectly. Various people claim that illegalizing euthanasia is not a problem. These individuals claim that legalizing euthanasia would target the vulnerable persons in the society. For instance, a myth that revolves around the legalization of euthanasia is that it would cause immense pressure on the old folks and handicapped people to end their lives (Foley, 2002).

Other people claim that legalizing euthanasia is against their religious beliefs. They believe God is the one that decides when an individual should die. Following this, euthanasia does not infringe on any human right. The choice to use euthanasia to terminate one’s life is a private affair. Euthanasia causes “harm” only to the individual who has requested for it. Transition: III. Satisfaction - 1. This study was done after legalization of euthanasia had been done in the country. A study carried out in 1991 before the legalization of euthanasia in Netherlands, found out that 0. 8% of cases involving euthanasia were practiced without the consent of the terminally ill patients (Rietjens, Maas, Onwuteaka-Philipsen, Delden, & Heide, 2009). The results of the two studies indicate that legalization of euthanasia tends to reduce the number of illegal deaths.

Euthanasia saves lives because after legalization it tends to provide a legal framework that physicians and doctors are required to acquire before they carry out any practice involving euthanasia. This depicts a strong cross-party support in the United States of America. Surprisingly, even when Gallup replaced the “painless death” in his question with “suicide,” the public still supported willing death claiming that it was the choice of a person to determine whether they want to live or die when they are terminally ill. Transition- IV. Visualization- 1. Picture how much worse off we’ll be if we don’t move to use my solution If euthanasia is not legalized and accepted by society, many cases of unwarranted deaths could arise as terminally ill individuals seek it secretly in backstreet “hospitals.

Action- 1. Restate thesis: The legalization of euthanasia should be done to avoid cases of unwarranted deaths and to give terminally ill patients the right to choose how their lives end. Call to action: Euthanasia should be legalized and embraced by society as a method of ending the lives of terminally ill individuals with their consent. Governments should put measures in place to oversee this crucial activity by creating medical bodies that approve and disapprove the procedure on terminally ill patients. Because if you don’t: If this is not done, terminally ill individuals and their families might seek help to carry out the act in backstreet “medical centers. Legalization of euthanasia tends to reduce this. Terminally ill individuals have the right to choose whether they should continue living or not.
