Understanding IEP enhances skills that result in practicable results on educational improvement and planning. In line with this, recognition of behaviorism, constructivism, and cognitivism theories of education are crucial in the development of IEP. On the same note, these theories among other theories of education are significant in revealing consistency of discrepancy with the thirteen disability categories as explained under IDEA. For a better understanding, it is also critical to reveal problems consistent to any student’s conditions. Moreover, the theories will serve to reveal and influence the styles of instruction of the Individual Education Program. It implies that the IEP needs to be tailored or centered at certain issues affecting children that hinder their brain development because of the disabilities or psychological disorders.

IEP centered in the theories of education is, therefore, critical as it enhances customization IEP suitable for every child. Behaviorism The behaviorism theory in education is a learning theory that majors in analyzing observable traits in a scientific approach. It discards the brain activities that happen in the any learner’s mind. In this regard, the behaviorism theory shelters in the affirmations that behavior and acquisition of new behavior relies on environmental conditioning—the location of a student at a particular time (people in it and the cultural norms in the locality). The energy attached and different desires by each student make education dynamic and reliant on the mode of teaching used by the teacher and the association between an instructor and the learners.

It necessitates a teacher to fist identify the interests of the majority of the students and their potentials before the formulation of a working IEP. The teacher will tend to form an IEP that is inquiry-based to enable the teacher to identify and encourage students to work on their potentials and all they deem essential for their future careers. On the other hand, stakeholders need to work closely with students to motivate, guide, and communicate with them as a strategy to meet the needs of all students including those with disabilities.
